KADAMBA, The Ayurvedic Holy Tree – S.N. Kurve, P. Kurve, N. Kurve, P.D. Golecha
Abstract Kadamba (Neolamarckia cadamba) is one of the sacred trees in India, known for its inseparable association with religious and mythological scriptures. The use of this tree in medicinal preparations and as a herb has been primarily documented in the Charak Samhita. Extensive research has been done for evaluating the properties of Kadamba. The herb is used mainly for relieving pain and improving the digestive function. The activities exhibited by this tree can be attributed to its major active components including flavonoids, sterols, saponins, and glycosides. Various research studies have demonstrated that Kadamba has genoprotective, antioxidant, diuretic, anti-urolithiatic, anti-fungal, analgesic, anti-microbial, antheiminthic, anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperlipidaemic, hypoglycemic, anti-tumor, sedative, anti-epileptic, and wound
healing properties. In this review we discuss recent studies regarding the therapeutic activities of Kadamba for a number of pathological conditions
