Type of Study: Mindfulness training (MT) is traditionally considered to be a group of practices that include meditation, yoga practices, and introspection. The goal is to mitigate mental health symptoms and to achieve psychological resilience. In the modern world, MT training usually involves an instructor, and many scientific studies have shown that instructor-led group interventions can provide relief for chronic pain and mood disorders. Because of the success of MT a growing number of ways to deliver MT is emerging, including the proliferation of smartphone apps. However, these methods of MT delivery are largely unvalidated and it is not known whether a smartphone app can replicate the positive therapeutic effect associated with more scientifically validated group interventions.
