Charak Samhita, the most authoritative text of medicine in Ayurveda states two goals of Ayurveda - Swasthasya swasthya rakshanam (to protect the health of healthy) and Aturasaya vikar prashamnam (treat the diseases of the sick).
Its first goal has solid ground based on concepts unique to Ayurveda such as Prakriti (personalized approach to self-care), Yat pinde tat Brahmande (relationship with environment), Swasth vritta (daily routine, seasonal routine, lifestyle). Aahar and Aahar vidhi visheshayatan (food and eating habits), Sadvritta (moral code of conduct). It has made Ayurveda popular but has kept it limited to wellness, especially outside of India.
