In March 2003 I embarked on a journey to India with 20 of my patients to visit sites of Ayurvedic importance and to sample panchakarma in South India. Although I have supervised thousands of patients through panchakarma over the past 15 years, all those treatments were in more or less ideal circumstances, i.e. in residence. As travelers, we would be doing panchakarma at the end of the three-week tour of India, The rigors of travel and foods prepared without regard to the guidelines of panchakarma, could modify the body's response to the program.
