Description
Why the Lines between Yoga and Ayurveda are Beginning to Blur - Arun Deva
Yoga and Ayurveda started off at opposite ends of the spectrum. The latter as a pravṛtti1 and the former as a nivṛtti.2 Ayurveda, as an upavéda, an addendum of the Veda’s devoted to a specific subject, remains
interested in the Vedic view of accessing perfect health (swasthavṛtta) with an end goal of reaching heavenly states such as Vaikun´tḥ a (Vishnu’s Celestial Abode). Yoga, at least in its traditional interpretation as found in the Patanjali Yoga Sutras3, was not interested in our day-to-day life. Rather it was a quasinihilistic viewpoint that said all life is suffering and all future suffering is to be avoided by not being born again (Héyam Dukkham Anāgatam),4 either here or in any heaven.
