From the Editors Desk - Bal Ram Singh

The Winter 2018 issue has basically two types of article. One is related to the mental and psychological aspects of Ayurveda and Yoga (Dunlop, Talcherkar, and Metri), and the other to material aspects of Ayurveda (Lurie and Singh). Facing the loss of a family member or close friends can be addressed through Ayurvedic interventions ranging from meditation to herbs. Julie Dunlop, in her article “Facing Loss: Ayurvedic Approaches to Soothe and Support,” heavily uses sources from Dr. Vasant Lad’s books to outline a series of meditative, diet, behavioral, and nature exposure to address the fundamental disbalance in doshic constitution when facing grief. She posits, “Keeping in mind that the proportions of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha in us may bring forth different manifestations of grief, we understand that loss is often a life-changing experience that may affect our balance— mentally, emotionally, and physically.” Ayurveda restores normal conditions through addressing imbalance in doshic constitution.
