Abstract
Life passes through various stages and every individual experiences Shoka (grief) at some point in time. In Ayurveda the word Shoka is used to explain the emotion which arises due to loss of a child or any close
relative. Such loss will be associated with enormous emotions and have a deleterious effect on the overall health of the individual. Maharshi Charaka defines it as “Shoka Shosananam” where Shoka is the predominant cause for consumption or depletion of health. The present article intends to explore the feeling of Shoka and its management from an Ayurvedic perspective as gleaned from the classical Ayurveda texts.
