I have recently returned from a conference at Harvard University on Integrative Medicine, Yoga, and Ayurveda. It was a fascinating mix of presenters and attendees that included allopathic MDs, yoga therapists, Ayurvedic practitioners, Ayurvedic doctors from India, scientists, local politicians from the state of Massachusetts, and the Minister of AYUSH and other dignitaries from the Government of India. What really struck me was how people from different backgrounds, countries, and medical perspectives all came together to discuss ways in which chronic pain and addiction could be addressed. There was respect for all medical traditions, and a great deal of excitement as everyone found common ground and areas for collaboration. I believe this is the future of modern medicine, a true integration of all medical traditions that fits the culture of each country.
